Apple's PM interview questions are unique in big tech. They tend to be more product-specific, more focused on Apple's ecosystem, and less predictable than questions at Google or Meta. But that does not mean you cannot prepare. Here are the most common question types and how to approach each one.
Apple's product design questions almost always involve Apple's own products. Examples include:
How would you improve the Apple Watch experience for seniors? Design a new feature for Apple Maps that leverages the M-series chips. If you were the PM for Safari, what would you prioritize for the next release? How would you improve the onboarding experience for Apple Vision Pro?
The key to answering Apple product design questions is showing that you understand Apple's design philosophy. Apple values simplicity, polish, and intentionality. Every feature should feel purposeful and integrated into the broader experience. Avoid proposing cluttered solutions or features that feel like they belong on a competing platform.
Start with the user, define the problem clearly, propose a solution that feels "Apple," and explain how it integrates with the ecosystem.
Strategy questions at Apple test your ability to think about the company's competitive position and long-term bets. Examples include:
Should Apple enter the smart home market more aggressively? How should Apple respond to Google's Gemini AI features? If you had to discontinue one Apple product line, which would it be and why? Should Apple open up iMessage to Android?
For strategy questions, demonstrate that you understand Apple's strategic priorities: user experience, privacy, ecosystem integration, and premium positioning. Any recommendation should align with these principles.
Apple's behavioral questions probe your ability to work cross-functionally, handle conflict, and demonstrate leadership. Examples include:
Tell me about a time you pushed back on a design decision. How have you handled disagreements between engineering and design teams? Describe a product you shipped that you are most proud of and what made it successful. Tell me about a time when you had to make a decision with incomplete information.
Apple PMs need to lead without authority within a functional organization. Your stories should demonstrate that you can influence stakeholders, navigate ambiguity, and maintain high standards for quality.
While less common than at Google, Apple does ask estimation questions. They tend to be more product-relevant:
Estimate the number of Apple Watch units sold in the US last year. How much storage does iCloud need to support all its users? Estimate the revenue from the App Store in a given quarter.
Use the same structured approach as any estimation question: break the problem into components, state your assumptions, calculate, and sanity-check your answer.
Apple sometimes includes a take-home exercise where you write an essay or prepare a presentation on a product challenge. This could be something like "Write a one-page product brief for a new Apple Fitness+ feature" or "Prepare a five-minute presentation on how Apple should approach the enterprise market."
Treat the take-home seriously. It is an opportunity to demonstrate depth of thinking that is hard to show in a live interview. Focus on clarity, structure, and genuine insight.
Product Alliance's Flagship Apple PM Course was created with insights from 12 Apple PMs, including hiring managers. It includes sample answers to all of these question types, mock interview walkthroughs, and a monthly updated list of real Apple PM interview questions.
